Rolled Oats - Benefits

August 27, 2017

Are you completely OATS?

Nothing says "good morning" like a warm bowl of oatmeal, as the weather gets cooler. Oats provide your body with many benefits.

Oats are among the healthiest grains on earth.

They’re a gluten-free whole grain (when not in contact with barley or wheat) and a great source of important vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.

Studies show that oats and oatmeal have many health benefits.

These include weight loss, lower blood sugar levels and a reduced risk of heart disease.

Because we are completely OATS, we will share some easy recipes you can enjoy for breakfast.

Let’s talk about OATS!

Oats (Avena sativa) are a cereal commonly eaten in the form of oatmeal or rolled oats.

Oats are loaded in dietary fiber (containing more than any other grain) and have a range of healthy cholesterol-lowering properties.

The food label on your package of oats should list one ingredient: whole grain oats. Avoid prepackaged oatmeal that may be high in both sodium and sugar and lower in beneficial fiber.

Nutritional breakdown of oats

Dietary fiber - oats are rich in a specific type of fiber called beta-glucan. This particular type of fiber is known to help lower levels of bad cholesterol. One cup (81g) of dry oats contains 8.2 grams of fiber.

Minerals - oats contain manganese, selenium, phosphorus, fiber, magnesium, and zinc. Oats are also rich in carotenoids, tocols (Vitamin E), flavonoids and avenanthramides - a class of polyphenols.

Calories - one cup of dry oats (81g) contains approximately 307 calories.

Why should you eat OATS?

Breakfast time: If you're not eating oatmeal for breakfast, you're missing out on a delicious way to add fiber and nutrients to your body first thing in the morning.

It's great for your gut, prevents constipation and support weight loss: Oats are a rich source of fiber, both soluble and insoluble, which helps in regulating bowel movements and hence prevents constipation

Oats is a low calorie food, which slows digestion and makes you feel full longer. Reduce your cravings by adding oats in your diet.

Prevents cardiovascular disease and rich source of magnesium

Oatmeal, citrus fruits, and honey can boost your sex drive and improve fertility. Oats produce a chemical that releases testosterone into the blood supply, vitamin C improves sperm count and motility, and vitamin B from honey helps your body use oestrogen, a key factor in blood flow and arousal.
